Biography

Calista Lim is a Malaysian soprano, freshly graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Voice (Hons) from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD), London, UK. During her time at Guildhall, Calista has been under the tutelage of Ruby Philogene-Doran and was also privileged to receive guidance from Sandra Smith, Sarah Walker, Jonathan Lemalu, and Marc Verter.

 

During her course in GSMD, Calista has been very fortunate to have performed in venues such as Barbican Centre, Milton Court Concert Hall, and Basilique Cathédrale de Saint-Denis in Paris.

Notable operatic roles that Calista has played include: Barbarina in a Guildhall production of Marriage of Figaro and Zerlina in the school's online production of Don Giovanni. Other engagements include The Fairy Queen by Purcell, Radamisto by Handel, and Haydn's opera La Fedeltà Premiata, 

Outside of the school, she has also participated in various competitions, such as the Stratford and East London Music Festivals, in which she won first place in both the Lieder and the Recital category. She has also taken part in The North London Music Festival, in which she won first place in the Lieder category.

Calista also maintains her passion for contemporary popular music and musicals, performing in various venues in Malaysia. She was featured in two local television channels as a guest performer and has also performed in large-scale events such as "Malaysia's Top 100 Leading Graduate Employers Awards" as a guest artiste. Additionally, she has appeared a few times in local newspapers like the New Straits TimesSin Chew Daily and China Press Malaysia. She is currently a member of the Jazz trio group “Pop n’ Bop” formed by established Jazz pianist Michael Veerapen. 

 

Apart from singing, Calista is passionate about dance as well. She started off with Latin dance at a young age and has since picked up Ballet and Jazz foundations. Calista has trained under various instructors in studios such as Pineapple Studios, Base Studios, and Studio 68 during her time studying abroad in London. She is currently exploring Urban/Hip-Hop styles and Commercial choreographies.

Aside from performing, Calista is also a vocal instructor. She began her teaching journey from her final year in university, and decided to pursue it further after graduating. She finds teaching extremely rewarding and believes in nurturing and guiding others to discover their passion and potential in music.
